Every Saturday between roughly 14:45 and 17:15, UK broadcasters are prohibited from showing live football. The rule dates back to the 1960s and exists to protect attendance at lower-league grounds. It applies to broadcasters licensed in the UK — and to nobody else.
Why other countries are not affected
The blackout is a domestic broadcasting restriction, not a property of the match feed. Broadcasters in Scandinavia, the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa and much of Asia carry the same fixtures live, with their own commentary teams, at the same moment the UK feed is dark.
What this means practically
Because OrigineTV carries feeds from broadcasters across many markets, the Saturday afternoon fixtures are generally available on an overseas feed. Commentary will often be in another language; the pictures are the same world feed. Many subscribers watch the international feed with the sound down and a radio commentary running alongside.
